For me, it says "Son of a president" in the clue box. :hmm:

looking at their example clue, i don't think i would have thought of that answer right away...
Every day we'll hide 25 new $1000 prizes in listings on eBay.com and eBayMotors.com. For each prize we'll post a clue to the "Get Clues" page—one clue for each prize. Each clue is a puzzle. It might be a straightforward word association, as in the example below. Or it might be an anagram, pun, rhyme, or oblique reference. To solve it, you may need to employ lateral thinking, or your knowledge of pop culture, American literature, or American history.

Example: Clue: "Apple Pie" Solution: "Motherhood"

Son of a president -> John Quincy Adams -------------> Bunker Hill Monument...

I don't really like that, but can't do anything about it.

wow...not easy...their example seems to be even more difficult than the actual question...

I would not waste your time. The clues are completely useless. You have better odds of winning the state lottery!

I tried for a little while but my eyeballs are starting to hurt.

These clues are just stupid. Have just as good of a chance to mistakenely find the winning item as compared to "logically" looking for it. :banghead:

I'll stick to my free chicken strip at Mickey D's. :D

I'm with you. This whole thing is a joke. But I am sure that EBAY is laughing all the way to the bank with all of the "Buy It Now" items that people are buying mistakenly.

We have a better chance of winning something by enetering by mail:

(B) To enter the eBay Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game by mail without using the Internet: Hand print your name, address, city, state, zip, e-mail address, eBay user ID (optional) and your day and evening phone numbers on a 3"x 5" card and mail in a #10 envelope to: "eBay Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game", P.O. Box 5000, Manhasset, NY 11030-5000. Non-winners will not be notified. Mail-in entries must be mailed separately and postmarked by February 23, 2005 and received by March 2, 2005. No mechanical reproductions of entries permitted. Odds of winning are 1:2,525. Odds based upon a total estimate of 500,000 game plays transacted and mail-in entries received over the Game Period; Actual odds of winning will depend upon the actual number of game plays transacted and mail-in entries received. In the event it is determined that a prize will be awarded to a mail-in entrant, winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all mail in entrants received during the Entry Period.

Limit twenty-five (25) eBay Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game entries per person and/or eBay User ID, per day, regardless of method of entry. Sponsor is not responsible for stolen, lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, inaccurate, illegible entries or postage due mail. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. All information provided to Sponsor when registering for, and participating in, the Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game will be used in accordance with Sponsor's privacy policy located on the eBay Site.

Despite the 1:2525 odds cited there, a note or two on the forum leads me to believe the mail-ins will be a random draw over any clues that were not figured out during the course of the contest -- seems like the odds will be a hell of a lot worse than 1:2525!

Even so, sending the maximum amount (25*7) of mail-in entries would still only give you a 1:7 chance of winning for almost 65 bucks worth of postage.
